So little research has been done about skunks dietary needs in captivity, there are vast differences in what people are told to feed their skunks. Our advice to anybody who is getting a skunk as a pet is that you do as much research as you can and make your own choise based on as much information as possible.
These are a few things that everybody agrees on where diet is concerned thoughSkunks are omnivores, they will eat anything, but are mainly vegetarians. Skunks that are fed junk food, high protein or high fat diets, such as CAT FOOD, beef, pork, or foods cooked in fatty products, are not long for this world. The wrong diet breaks down the liver, kidneys, heart and lungs of a skunk. Bad diet = dead skunk. Simple!
 
1. Cat food is not an adequate diet for skunks and can be detrimental to their health.
2. Dog food alone is not adequate for a skunks diet.
3. Skunks need more calcium than provided in any of the accepted diet plans.
4.Skunks need about 500 mg a day of taurine, which is moer than provided in any diet.
